ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The 2013 New Mexico Small Business Week Award winners — including Small Business Person of the Year and tech company CEO Anthony R. Tenorio — will be celebrated at a June 4 luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hotel Albuquerque.
“The New Mexico award winners are all leaders. They give back and engage others to do the same. They also collaborate with other small businesses to improve the economy,” SBA District Director John Woosley said in a news release.
SBA Region VI Regional Administrator Yolanda Garcia Olivarez will be the keynote speaker for the luncheon being coordinated by the New Mexico Small Business Development Center Network.
The 2013 New Mexico Small Business Week Award winners include:
⋄ Small Business Person of the Year – Anthony R. Tenorio, CEO/chairman, Applied Technology Associates in Albuquerque.
⋄ Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year – Timothy L. Hale, Cabinet secretary, New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
⋄ Minority Small Business Champion of the Year – Miguel A. Moreno, president/CEO, Senspex Inc. in Albuquerque.
⋄ Women in Business Champion of the Year – Elvina “Penny” Emerson, president, Native Resource Development Co. Inc., Santa Ana Pueblo.
⋄ Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Center Award – Sandoval County Small Business Development Center, Theodore (Ted) M. Trujillo.
⋄ Small Business Exporter of the Year – Francis (Ed) Camden, president, Southwest Steel Coil – a New Mexico corporation, a division of Calstrip Industries. Camden also won the Region VI Small Business Exporter of the Year Award.
⋄ 7(a) Small Business Lender of the Year – Wells Fargo Bank.
⋄ 504 Third Party Lender of the Year – New Mexico Bank & Trust.
Every year since 1963, the president of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small-business owners. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year, organizers said in a news release.
