ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Normally we like to point out who was born on this day in history …
… but today we take a somewhat morbid turn and remember who died on this day after Christmas, and it's a remarkable group.
The 33rd president of the United States, Harry S Truman, died on this day in 1972 at the age of 88.
Comedian Jack Benny died two years later at the age of 80.
Soul singer Curtis Mayfield was just 57 when he died on Dec. 26, 1999, and a year later it was actor Jason Robards who died at 78.
Former President Gerald R. Ford died on this day last year at the age of 93.
(For sheer coincidence, however, nothing beats that July 4th in 1826, when two American presidents died on the same day, second President John Adams and third President Thomas Jefferson, bitter enemies in life, who both died on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.)
It's also a shock to remember that 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her family's Boulder, Colo., home on this day in 1996.
And of course today's the third anniversary of one of the greatest natural disasters in history — the tsunami triggered by an earthquake in the Indian Ocean that left more than 216,000 people dead or missing in southern Asia.
All that aside, we hope you have a happy day.
