Cibola teacher charged with touching student

antonioALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Cibola High School teacher was charged with criminal sexual contact of a minor on Thursday, KRQE reports.

According to a criminal complaint, language arts teacher Antonio Ortega, 37, went up behind a 17-year-old female student on Wednesday, the last day of the school year, and placed his hands on her neck and began touching her.

Ortega allegedly told the student that she couldn’t tell anyone what he was doing or he would lose his job.

According to the complaint, after the student told Ortega to stop, he forcefully touched her private parts.

As the student was leaving, Ortega propositioned for her for sex, the complaint says.

Ortega faces charges of criminal sexual contact of a minor and intimidation of a witness.

Ortega has been placed on paid leave while Albuquerque Public Schools investigates.
