New Mexico Book Notes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Diana Rowland, a former police detective and computer forensics specialist, will be at Page One Bookstore at 3:30 today to talk about and sign her urban fantasy/horror books from the “Demon” and “White Trash” series.

“Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues” was released last summer. “Touch of the Demon” is the fifth adventure of Kara Gillian. It was released in December.

Also at Page One, Ian Tregillis, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory by day and an author by night, will talk about and sign his World War II-era science fiction novel, “Necessary Evil,” the final volume of his Milkweed Triptych trilogy, at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

AT GARCIA STREET BOOKS: Lynn C. Miller and Lisa Lenard-Cook will read from and sign their book “Find Your Story, Write Your Memoir” at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1. The book offers an overview of their building blocks of memoir writing. The bookstore is at 376 Garcia St. in Santa Fe.

TRAVELIN’ JACK SIGNS: Terrie Q Sayre and Travelin’ Jack, an old English bulldog, will sign copies of their new book “Terrie Q & Travelin’ Jack’s Pet Friends” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande NW. Some of the proceeds from the book go to pet charities in Albuquerque. This is Sayre’s first book and Travelin’ Jack’s second. He won a New Mexico Book Award for his first book. His human, Jill Lane, also will be in attendance.

BOOK ON COOKING: Chef Kim Müller and “The Chefs Collaborative Cookbook” will be the focus of an event at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at Collected Works Bookstore & Coffeehouse, 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe.

“Chefs Collaborative” is a national network of chefs, food professionals and producers who have been changing the sustainable food landscape for 20 years. Müller was executive chef for Real Food Nation and its supper club from its opening in 2009 through January 2012.

AT ALAMOSA BOOKS: Puppeteer and children’s author Anne Sawyer-Aitch will be at the bookstore with her first picture book, “Nalah and the Pink Tiger,” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28. In the book, Nalah is a rambunctious little girl who lives so intensely in her imagination that grownups view her as a troublemaker.

Author and poet Dodici Azpadu will present her new collection of poetry, “Wearing the Phantom Out,” at 6 p.m. Friday, May 31 at Alamosa. The poems draw on the storehouse of multimedia sources about the phantom of the opera.

Azpadu teaches creative writing to community college students in Albuquerque.

MEET THE AUTHOR: Gene Lessard will discuss and sign his book “Grandfather’s Tale: The Story of Human Evolution and Dispersal” from 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 31 at Hastings, 6051 Winterhaven NW. It is the story of humankind beginning in Africa about 6 million years ago to today, when people have dispersed and settled almost every niche on Earth.

AT TREASURE HOUSE: Author Ralph Estes signs his book “The Autobiography of Billy the Kid” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Treasure House Books & Gifts, 2012 South Plaza NW in Old Town. The event is free.
