11:30am — NRO Looks at NM’s GOP Senate Battle

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — President Bush's nickname for Heather Wilson is "Landslide" … Who knew?

Whoever wins the increasingly testy battle for the GOP nomination in the race to replace retiring Sen. Pete Domenici, Republicans hope the defense of Domenici's seat isn't as hopeless as it currently appears, according to the National Review Online's David Freddoso.

Even if Sen. John McCain wins the state's five electoral votes in November, New Mexicans have proven themselves enthusiastic ticket-splitters over the years, Freddoso writes.

Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M., "has the cash and the high favorables," according to the NRO report.
