Thompson Ridge fire up to 1,742 acres, more than doubling in size

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Thompson Ridge fire in the Jemez Mountains is up to at least 1,742 acres this morning, more than doubling in size from 24 hours ago, according to data collected with infrared instruments in an overnight observation flight.

As my colleague Pat Lohmann reported in this morning’s paper, lighter winds Saturday slowed the fire’s spread in the last 24 hours after it ignited Friday near the crossroads of NM 4 and 126 near the southwestern edge of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
