Beginning 8 a.m. Monday, most forest lands and trails within the Sandia Ranger District will be closed, but you can still go to the Sandia Peak tram and associated facilities.
You can’t go to any national forest lands at the top of the crest, including La Luz Trail.
Other open areas include the Tijeras Pueblo interpretative trail at the Sandia Ranger Station, but visitors must stay on the official trail. Also open are portions of Forest Trail 365, outside of Sandia Mountain wilderness and south of the tram. Open roads include Forest Road 242 and Forest Road 413.
Bernalillo County is closing these East Mountains open space areas on Monday: Carlito Springs, Ojito de San Antonio, Sabino Canyon, Sedillo Ridge and Sandia Knolls.
For areas still open, the following are banned: smoking, fireworks, fires, stoves, grills or open flames. Penalties for violating the restrictions may include fines or jail time.
Along the river, all bosque areas are closed except for established trails. You can still go fishing or canoeing as long as you use an established trail or a levee to get to the river.
Call 242-COPS to report any suspicious activity and report fires to 911.
