Albuquerque-based BIZDOC Inc. has entered into an agreement to buy the Chamisa Hills Golf and Country Club in Rio Rancho, the president and CEO of the company said Thursday evening.
Michael Schumacher told a packed room at Rio Rancho City Hall that he wants to continue to operate the 235-acre property as a golf course.
Schumacher, who lives in Rio Rancho, was attending a work session the city held to hear public comment and discuss the property.
When current owner Harry Apodaca announced he planned to sell the property, some neighbors expressed concern that a new owner would turn the property into a residential subdivision.
The property was scheduled for an online auction May 29 but failed to produce any bidders. Instead, the owner decided to take sealed bids with a June 10 deadline.
Mayor Tom Swisstack on Thursday instructed staff to research and prepare a report with possible water rate options for bulk users, like the golf course. Apodaca has said impending water rate increases will prevent the golf course from being a viable business in the future.
