ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico Republican blasts Democrat for suggesting Iraqi government backs his troop timetable.
Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., a leading surrogate for the presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain, today blasted McCain's Democratic rival Barack Obama as "frighteningly inexperienced," according to CNNPolitics.com's "Political Ticker."
Speaking on a conference call with reporters, Wilson sharply criticized Obama and his campaign for suggesting that the Iraqi government had endorsed Obama's timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, CNN reported.
"He's not listening to the whole of what the Iraqi government was saying — he's hearing what he wanted to hear and what he tought would help him politically, which gets back to Senator Obama as a candidate for the presidency," said Wilson. "He has his finger in the wind, trying to figure out which way the wind is blowing, and he is not leading."
Wilson, who lost her bid for the GOP nomination to succeed retiring Sen. Pete Domenici in June, said Obama is "no way sophisticated enough, I don't think — I mean he is frighteningly inexperienced when it comes to international affairs and national security policy."
