Gallup hospital seeks joint venture

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The board of Gallup’s major hospital has voted to consider a proposal to sell the hospital to a joint venture of the University of New Mexico and LHP Hospital Group, a privately held hospital company based in Plano, Texas.

UNM and LHP responded to a request for proposals issued last year by Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services, which hopes to enter into a strategic alliance that will shore up its finances, improve its facilities and help it attract health care providers and patients. UNM would own 20 percent of the joint venture and LHP would own 80 percent.

A spokesman for UNM said Wednesday that there are many steps to be taken before the parties can begin to discuss a transaction, beginning with an extensive due diligence process.
