10:40am — Near-Fatal Crash in ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Man, 48, in very critical condition after AM collision.

Wed., March 1 UPDATE: The victim of Tuesday morning’s collision at the intersection of Menaul and Louisiana NE remains in critical condition with massive head injuries at the University of New Mexico Hospital today. We were given an incorrect spelling for the accident victim’s name, which we have now corrected in the items posted below.

Scott Ditmer of Albuquerque is in critical condition at University of New Mexico Hospital following a crash at 6:37 a.m. today between the motorcycle he was riding and a Mazda SUV driven by Jorita Kubica, 47, said Albuquerque Police Department spokeswoman Trish Hoffman.

Ditmer was traveling west on Menaul when he approached Louisiana and entered the intersection after the light turned red and struck Kubica’s SUV in the driver’s side door, Hoffman said.

Ditmer, who was wearing a helmet at the time, suffered massive head injuries in the crash and was taken to UNM Hospital, Hoffman said.

Kubica was also taken to the hospital with some physical complaints and a minor injury, Hoffman said.

Police shut down the intersection until about 9 a.m., causing morning traffic to back up and forcing drivers to seek alternate routes.
