Wed., March 1 UPDATE: The victim of Tuesday morning’s collision at the intersection of Menaul and Louisiana NE remains in critical condition with massive head injuries at the University of New Mexico Hospital today. We were given an incorrect spelling for the accident victim’s name, which we have now corrected in the items posted below.
Scott Ditmer of Albuquerque is in critical condition at University of New Mexico Hospital following a crash at 6:37 a.m. today between the motorcycle he was riding and a Mazda SUV driven by Jorita Kubica, 47, said Albuquerque Police Department spokeswoman Trish Hoffman.
Ditmer was traveling west on Menaul when he approached Louisiana and entered the intersection after the light turned red and struck Kubica’s SUV in the driver’s side door, Hoffman said.
Ditmer, who was wearing a helmet at the time, suffered massive head injuries in the crash and was taken to UNM Hospital, Hoffman said.
Kubica was also taken to the hospital with some physical complaints and a minor injury, Hoffman said.
Police shut down the intersection until about 9 a.m., causing morning traffic to back up and forcing drivers to seek alternate routes.

Albuquerque Police have cleared the site at Louisiana and Menaul NE where a motorcyle and SUV collided around 6:30 this morning, KOB-TV is reporting.
Albuquerque police are trying to find out what caused the crash at Louisiana and Menaul this morning and are interviewing witnesses who say the motorcyclist ran a red light and crashed into the SUV, APD spokeswoman Trish Hoffman told ABQjournal.com. Hoffman said the motorcyclist is at University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition. Identities of the drivers have not been released.
7:50am — Crash Closes Intersection: SUV, motorcycle collision shuts Louisiana at Menaul NE.
Albuquerque police are still on the scene of a collision this morning at Louisiana and Menaul NE, and commuters are being urged to find an alternate route around this intersection. Dispatchers say there are serious injuries involved.
Television reporters on the scene say traffic is backed up in all four directions at the intersection, which is on the northeast corner of Coronado Center.
Meanwhile, APD dispatchers say a body was discovered just a few minutes ago in a pond at the Los Altos Golf Course. More details to follow.
