ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Rocky Long, the University of New Mexico’s head football coach for the past 11 seasons, resigned Monday. Long finished his career at New Mexico with a record of 65-69, including five bowl appearances.

Long resigns as UNM’s all-time winningest coach, but this past season’s record of 4-8 was his worst since 1998. The Lobos earned their first bowl victory under Long last year with a 23-0 victory over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl.

NM head coach steps down
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Rocky Long is stepping down as head coach of New Mexico’s football team.
UNM athletics department spokesman Greg Remington confirmed Long’s resignation, which is effective immediately.
No other details were immediately released. The university scheduled a news conference for 5 p.m. Monday to discuss Long’s departure.
