5:20am — The Suspense Is Killing Us

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Wilson lead narrows; just 1,985 ballots left to count.

Will we know today? The 1st Congressional District race between incumbent Heather Wilson and Patricia Madrid got a little closer Wednesday with Madrid cutting into Wilson's lead, leaving the Republican 1,164 votes ahead and a total of 1,985 ballots left to count.

Final numbers are expected to come in today, but the Bernalillo County Clerk's Office has until 4 p.m. Friday to post the final, official count.

According to an analysis in this morning's Albuquerque Journal, Madrid would need to pick up about 79 percent of the remaining votes in order to prevail.

But even if Madrid falls short and the margin is significantly narrower, we can expect the election to move into the courts.
