Lovato To Miss 'Genesis' Card

Broken Right Hand To Keep Him Out

Even with a protective cast on his broken right hand, Lenny Lovato Jr. was cautiously optimistic Tuesday that he would be able to fight in the first mixed martial arts card at the Pit.

By Saturday, he knew it wasn’t meant to be.

Albuquerque’s Lovato has withdrawn from his scheduled bout with Ultimate Fighter alum Junie Browning at the MMA Fight Pit: “Genesis” next Saturday.

“I won’t be fighting for sure,” Lovato confirmed to the Journal via text message. “My hand hasn’t healed.”

Lovato was scheduled to return to the cage for the first time in more than a year, but he injured the hand during a sparring session.

A replacement opponent or bout has not been announced.

“I’d rather heal up in three months and get back in there in five months rather than spend four or five years (dealing) with an injury that could have been fixed very easily due to my stubbornness,” Lovato said.

The event features a light-heavyweight match between Houston Alexander and Razak Al-Hassan as well as a bantamweight bout between Jackson-Winkeljohn’s Coty “Ox” Wheeler and Jens Pulver.
