Sports Speak Up

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — n TWO THINGS will seal Craig Thompson’s legacy as the MWC Commissioner: (1) the horrible TV contract, and (2) not bringing Boise State into the conference soon enough. The conference went from having an actual national TV audience (albeit on an occasional odd night or starting time) to a smattering of hardcore fans efforting to find games on obscure channels. With a better TV deal and Boise involved earlier on, perhaps Boise, Air Force, BYU, TCU, and, now, San Diego State, would have remained committed to making the MWC an automatic BCS qualifier.

♦ PEOPLE DO CARE about “non-revenue” sports. It’s TV that doesn’t care because frankly, they haven’t figured out how to totally screw up those sports like they have football, major league baseball and the NBA. The fact that football is the biggest dog in the pack is based entirely on TV ad revenue, nothing more, nothing less.

♦ THERE ARE NO piddly sports, only piddly people.

— UNM Alumnus

♦ ONE MISTAKE, lets see advertising alcoholic beverages for club seating but fails to obtain a liquor license, giving an unproven football coach a 5 year $ 750.000.00 a year contract, complete mishandling of an employee of the university physically assaulting a subordinate, questionable bid documentation favoring an outside contractor friend of President Schmedly. Further, hiring outside consultant firms to help in job searches. It’s been reported that Krebs has paid a female consultant thousands of $ for advice, not to mention Rudy Davalos still collecting a salary from UNM including an office in the athletic department. This NM taxpayer has had enough. This three ring circus has to end and Krebs and company have to go.

— Embarrassed Alumni

♦ HO HUM! Another loss. There are four more games to suffer through and then it’s over. Will this be our first year of 0-12. We’ve come close the past two years but managed to win a game each year. UNM is a large school and having a football team, like WE have, is an embarassment.

♦ THIS SATURDAY is for the young men who chose to come here and play football. You will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! YOU HAVE SHOWN TRUE GRIT AND I, MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE THERE TO SALUTE AND HONOR YOUR EFFORT!!! Please,..Albuquerque, the state of New Mexico and especially the UNM community,…let’s all tailgate and attend the game. This is the best thing we can do TO SHOW HOW MUCH WE DO CARE.

♦ IT’S APPARENT that neither UNM & NMSU will ever have the type of football program that this state deserves.

— Realistic Football Fan!

♦ TO ESPN: Your calling the LSU-Alabama game, the game of the century was the largest error you have ever made. We all know you love the SEC, you bought them, but when 75% of your commentators, who were not even born when the real Game of the Century was played kept shoving it down our throats, it was only fitting that 9-6 was the final score. Totally boring, four missed FG”s and a waste of time. Nebraska-Oklahoma 1971 still known as Greatest game ever played, known as the game of the century, 25 players drafted into the NFL, 1 Heisman winner, 2 Outland winners, 1 Lombardi winner, 9 concensus All-Americans. Oh, by the way, said, Nebraska 1971 greatest football team ever. The pups must not have read your press releases.
