COVID case count remains low as deaths spike

New Mexico surpassed 175,000 cases of COVID-19 after recording an additional 670 cases along with 29 deaths from the virus in an update on Wednesday afternoon.

The new numbers pushed the rolling averages to 659 cases and 20 deaths a day.

Of the 29 most recent deaths, all but nine had reported underlying conditions.

The deceased ranged in age, from their 40s to their 90s, and nine of the deceased were from Bernalillo County.

The majority of new cases were from Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties with 161 and 95, respectively.

So far, the state has recorded 175,652 cases and 3,338 deaths from the virus.

There are currently 476 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in New Mexico and 107,645 cases have been designated as recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health.
