ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In news announced by the newsmaker himself, now-former Lobos football safety Zach Dancel says he’s transferring to Maryland.
No surprise here; Dancel came to UNM almost exclusively because of his and his former high school coach’s relationship with former Lobos coach Mike Locksley — who now is the offensive coordinator at Maryland.
Dancel is a fine player in his own right, but he’s also extremely close to his former Good Counsel (Md.) High School teammate Wes Brown, a highly sought-after running back. Good Counsel went 12-0 this past season, so no doubt there are other FBS prospects on the Falcons’ roster.
Between Locksley’s influence and Dancel’s, the Maryland-D.C. pipeline has been res-established close to home — and, no doubt, dried up here in Albuquerque.
