Locks' Contract’s Heather Dinich makes some valid and salient points about incentives in former Lobos coach Mike Locksley’s contract as offensive coordinator at Maryland.

To give Locksley, or anyone, $25,000 for a top-40 Scout or Rivals recruiting class is like awarding the Heisman Trophy in August. Those kids won’t have accomplished anything yet.

Locksley never got the chance to run up the score on anyone during his 2-26 tenure at UNM, so it’s hard to know his philosophy on such things. But Dinich again has a point when she criticizes an incentive that would award Locks $25,000 if the Terrapins should lead the Atlantic Coast Conference in total offense or scoring offense. He gets another $25,000 if the Terps lead the nation in total offense.

The above incentives, Dinich notes, dwarf the amount Locksley would get for a good Graduation Success Rate and Academic Progress Rate.
