UNM baseball wins in dramatic fashion over Kansas State

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Cole Posey raced home from second base on Mack Chambers’ infield hit in the bottom of the ninth to give the University of New Mexico baseball team a 4-3 victory over Kansas State in the College Baseball Classic on Sunday night.

Posey, who reached on a walk and was sacrificed to second, never stopped on Chambers’ ground ball to second and an errant throw home capped the walkoff win for UNM (1-2).

Jared Martin went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI single for the Lobos, who scored twice in the eighth inning to tie the score. UNM pitchers Tristin Lively, Terrell Hudson and Bobby Meza (1-0) combined on a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Connor McCullough pitched seven innings, allowing one run with nine strikeouts for Kansas State (0-1).

UNM faces Oregon State at 3 p.m. on Monday to conclude the tournament.
