In Dallas, Albuquerque boxer Aaron Angel Perez fought to a draw against heavily favored Raymond Ford Saturday in an eight-round featherweight bout.
Perez is 10-0-1 (six knockouts). Ford, of Camden, New Jersey, is 8-0-1 (four KOs).
In a bout streamed nationally on DAZN, one judge favored Perez, 78-74. Another scored it 77-75 for Ford. The third judge had it 76-76, resulting in a split draw.
Perez, a decided underdog, carried the fight to Ford from the opening bell. Ford rallied in the middle rounds, creating some punching distance, but Perez never stopped applying pressure for long.
Post-fight commentary online appeared evenly split, suggesting a draw was a reasonable outcome.
