Teresa Tapia Thanks Fans

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — I want to express my thanks to everyone for the love and respect shown by friends and fans after the recent death of my husband, Johnny Tapia.
I knew Johnny had touched the hearts and lives of a lot of people in New Mexico and across the U.S. It made me and our family feel good to know that Johnny had meant so much to so many people.
We wanted to give his friends and fans an opportunity to say good-bye. While we had a crowd of almost 7,000 in the Pit for his Memorial Service, we’d like to apologize to the crowd estimated at up to 2,000 who weren’t allowed in.  The speakers and entertainers did an outstanding job.
Everything went smoothly because of cooperation from everyone, especially French Mortuary, New Beginnings Church, Victory Outreach, the University of New Mexico, Mayor Richard Berry and the Albuquerque Police Dept. It was an event that Johnny’s fans can remember forever.
I’d also like to thank the paramedics of Albuquerque Fire Dept., the officers of APD and the State Medical Examiner’s Office for their professionalism and sensitivity the night Johnny was found.
It will take time for my family and me to adjust to life without Johnny, but the sympathy, affection and respect shown by everyone will make that a little easier. It is a real comfort to know that Johnny was so loved and will be missed.
