Dzaki Sukarno made it to Hollywood week on “American Idol.”
But the Las Cruces-based country singer got cut from the duet challenge on Monday night’s broadcast.
After Sunday night’s portion, the judges tried something new for the season.
Each performer was paired with another competitor in the same genre.
Sukarno was paired with Caleb Kennedy. The pair then had 24 hours to decide on a song to perform. The performers then got feedback from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan prior to the official performance.
The singers were judged as a pair, and individually. This is when Sukarno’s journey ended on the show.
“I’ve had the greatest experience,” Sukarno said about the show. “I grew up around music and being able to showcase what I do has been amazing.”
Sukarno said he will continue to perform around Las Cruces while he’s still in school.
He will continue to put out music that is personal.
“Country music, singer-songwriters, those are all in my wheelhouse,” he says. “It’s about being a storyteller.”
