I WAS FORTUNATE enough to attend the Meet and Greet in honor of new Lobo basketball coach, Richard Pitino. He made a great first impression as being very warm, personable and passionate about rebuilding our once mighty basketball program. His vision was contagious. We all left the event certain he will be the guy to return us to our perch atop the MWC standings. Let’s get it cracking!

THE ABSOLUTE BEST thing Richard Pitino can do immediately is to get his father to come here to be an assistant coach. Best for recruiting and teaching. Please do it, Richard.
NOT SURE WHY so many local people think that the answer to UNM’s woes is to invest in local talent and local coaches. Cullen Neal and Brycr Alford were the best players to come out of NM in the last 10-15 years, yet they were barely top 100 players. Be realistic, NM talent is light years behind the rest of the county.

LOOKS LIKE THE Big Ten Conference will set a record not only for the number of Big Ten schools selected to play in the NCAA championship but also for the number of its schools that lost in the the first two rounds. Congratulations to the selection committee for selecting nine Big Teams, 8 of whom lost their first or second games. Think the selection process needs a little work?

I JUST SAW the article about “Slap Fighting”. With all this time on my hands, I came up with another sport that’s sure to catch on. It’s called “Hurling”. The two combatants stand 6 feet apart and hurl insults at each other until one can’t take it any more. I just hope my friends who move stones down the ice with their brooms don’t take this as a “slap in the face”.
