Daniels Fund names 29 New Mexico scholarship winners

The Daniels Fund has announced its 2021 list of scholarship winners from four states, including 29 students from 16 different cities and towns around New Mexico.

Daniels Scholars are assessed on their strength of character, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service, according to a news release.

The winners were selected from nearly 2,000 applicants.

“The 2021 cohort is impressive and filled with outstanding young people who have promising futures ahead,” said Hanna Skandera, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund and former secretary of New Mexico’s Public Education Department. “We’re delighted to have them join the family of Daniels Scholars and look forward to being a part of their journey through college and beyond.”

Scholarship winners may attend any accredited nonprofit college or university in the United States. The program covers up to $25,000 per year in educational expenses that remain after any other scholarships, financial aid, and the Expected Family Contribution have been applied.

bright spotThe Daniels Fund, established by cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, is a private charitable foundation dedicated to making life better for the people of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming through its grants program, scholarship program, and ethics initiative.

  • Rebekah L. Roybal, Cimarron High School
  • Mason Sterling Curtis, Cloudcroft High School
  • Joshua T. Jackson, College and Career High School
  • Jeanie Vo, Del Norte High School
  • Kaydance Marquez Chavez, Deming High School
  • Antonio Martinez, eCADEMY High School
  • Juan Ernesto Diaz, Gadsden High School
  • Reagan Mitchell Bone, Grady High School
  • Terrell Jamal Hocker, Grants High School
  • Rylen Brent Potter, home schooled
  • Kate Aubrey Cooper, Hondo High School
  • Ryan Howard Barber, La Cueva High School
  • Grace Bethany McCabe, Legacy Academy
  • Garrett Lane Bollinger, Logan High School
  • Madison Miller, Lordsburg High School
  • Alexander Zane Tramell, Lovington High School
  • Jaime Prieto, Mayfield High School
  • Julie Elizabeth Mason, Oñate High School
  • KayLee Marie Maes, Raton High School
  • Jennifer Ryne Friberg, Ruidoso High School
  • Alyssa Hope Sagara-Yoshimura, Ruidoso High School
  • Mohammad Yaseen Abdullah, School of Dreams Academy
  • Andrea Frances Selfridge, South Valley Academy
  • Alexa Karina Urueta, South Valley Academy
  • Abdul Ziad Khweis, Taos High School
  • Natalie Erynne Hayes, Tucumcari High School
  • and Alyssa A. Daniel-Peterson. Valley High School

The fund is aiding a total of 240 high school seniors from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
