ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The parent company of Group Orion, an aerospace company that expressed interest in building a massive campus near the Albuquerque International Sunport, has leased a separate 72,000-square-foot building in Southeast Albuquerque.
Steve Gonzalez, principal at Lee & Associates in Phoenix, confirmed to the Journal that Theia Group recently signed a lease to occupy an industrial facility at 10800 Gibson Blvd. SE. The facility is part of the Sandia Science and Technologies Park, which once housed Raytheon Co.’s Albuquerque operations, according to previous Journal reporting.
Gonzalez said the company leased the full 72,784-square-foot building, but declined to comment further on the terms of the lease. A brochure produced by Lee & Associates states that the lease is for approximately 10 years, and is due to expire March 31, 2031.
Theia Group’s plans to build a massive campus on the parcel of land that once housed the Sunport’s north-south runway went public last fall. In November, the Albuquerque Environmental Planning Commission approved a new site plan for the approximately 122-acre parcel.
While the city has not yet announced a lease agreement for the larger parcel, the company has announced its intentions to build a multi-building campus, including a 4.1-million-square-foot assembly building facility.
The campus, which would be known as the Orion Center, could house 1,000 jobs when it opens, with room to expand from there, according to a statement from the company.
