A Southern New Mexico tortilla company is expanding, with the help of $50,000 in state funding.
The New Mexico Economic Development Department announced Thursday that La Primera Tortilla Factory, a 37-year-old family company that specializes in flour and corn tortillas, will receive $50,000 in grant funding through the Local Economic Development Act.
The assistance will help La Primera expand its existing facility, at 102 Palomas Place in Sunland Park, according to a news release from EDD.
La Primera plans to invest $2.7 million in equipment and add 14 employees over the next three years.
The company is the third New Mexico food-processing business to announce expansions using LEDA funding in 2021, after Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm and Bueno Foods received funds earlier this year, according to the release.
