ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Puerto Rican boxing legend Miguel Cotto tweeted on Friday that he has agreed to face Las Cruces’ Austin Trout on Dec. 1 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Trout, for his part, tweeted, “God has answered my prayers! Thank you Jesus!”
Las Cruces’ Louie Burke, Trout’s trainer, said he believes the information is solid since it came from Cotto. But, Burke noted, he and Trout have thought they had big fights secured in the past — only to be let down.
“But I think it’s probably gonna happen,” Burke said.
Trout is 25-0 with 14 knockouts as a professional. Cotto is 37-3-2 with 30 KOs, his only defeats coming at the hands of world champions Antonio Margarito (later avenged), Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
