ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The city of Albuquerque has opened registration for in-person and virtual summer youth programs, camps and jobs that are designed to accommodate just under 80,000 participants.

“Summer is an exciting time for the (city’s) Youth Connect team because we get to welcome youth from across the city to programs we have been planning for months,” Cristin Chavez-Smith, division manager for Family and Community Services, said in a news release.

The city, according to the release, is expecting to:

• Offer 42 in-person programs that can accommodate just under 60,000 youngsters.

• Offer 28 virtual programs that can accommodate a little more than 18,000 participants.

• Invest $2.3 million in paid youth wages as part of hiring 875 youth staffers.

Parents can learn about the offerings by visiting yc.cabq.gov for dates and to register.

Available programs include Early Childhood Centers, Explora Summer Camps, Albuquerque Museum School Summer Art Camps, Adventures in Art!, Youth Studio, Let’s Make a Movie! Sharing Our Stories in the Digital Age, The Art and Science of Ballooning in New Mexico, Camp BioPark Summer Program, Camp Fearless and Junior Golf.

Community and multigenerational centers are expected to open their lottery for applicants in early May, with programs to begin in mid-June.
