ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — B.R. Holbrook’s 16-yard option keeper nets the Lobos a first down with 1:25 left — he might have scored on the play but slid down instead to kill the clock — clinches this one for New Mexico. 27-14, Lobos, final.

… Aggies can’t recover onside kick. Lobos have possession on the NMSU 44 with 3:54 left. Aggies have all three of their timeouts.

… After forcing a Lobo punt, NMSU scores on a 23-yard pass from Andrew Manley to Austin Franklin. It’s 27-14 with 3:54 left in the game. We’re not done yet.

Jhurell Pressley scores from 1 yard out, giving UNM a 27-7 lead with 9:10 left in the game. Lobos drive 40 yards in eight plays, all on the ground, after an NMSU fumble. Fat Lady hasn’t sung yet, but she’s warming up.

… Lobo linebacker Joe Stoner recovers an NMSU fumble. UNM takes over at the Aggie 40-yard line with 13:00 left in the game.

… Lobos forced to punt from their own 40 with 14:16 left in the game. Huge offensive series upcoming for Aggies.

… End of third quarter: UNM 20, NMSU 7. Lobos have the ball with a 2nd-and-11 at their own 40. Big third-down conversion three plays earlier on a 15-yard option keep by B.R. Holbrook.

… Kasey Carrier bolts 29 yards up the middle for a touchdown at the end of a 7-play, 74-yard UNM drive. Carrier goes over 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career. It’s 20-7, Lobos with 5:49 left in the third quarter. The NMSU defense could be wearing out.

… After an exchange of fumbles, Aggies drive to the Lobo 26, go for it on 4th and 9. Lobo safety Jamal Merritt rips the ball away from NMSU’s Austin Franklin in the end zone. It’s 1st-and-10 Lobos at their own 26 with 9:04 left in the third quarter.

… Halftime stats: UNM, 13 first downs, 222 yards total offense. Kasey Carrier, 58 yards rushing on eight carries. B.R. Holbrook, 10-of-15 passing for 78 yards. NMSU, six first downs, 108 yards total offense. Robert Clay, 24 yards on six carries. Andrew Manley, 7-of-11 passing for 81 yards.

…UNM’s Justus Adams kicks a 28-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, giving the Lobos a 13-7 lead at intermission. But UNM misses a huge opportunity when wide receiver Quintell Solomon drops a sure touchdown pass five plays earlier. Aggies might actually have the momentum here.

… Aggies strike back, driving 75 yards on just five plays. Robert Clay gets the TD on an 11-yard run. Key play: a 35-yard pass from Andrew Manley to Austin Franklin. It’s 10-7, Lobos, with 8:48 left in the first half.

….Good evening from Aggie Memorial Stadium, where the New Mexico Lobos and the New Mexico Aggies will tee it up in about half an hour. The temperature’s in the low 90s with what appears to be a light southerly breeze. Plenty of good seats available right now, but people are still filing in or tailgating.
