ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The ninth-ranked New Mexico men’s soccer team lost at the hands of Air Force for the second time in a week with by the score of 2-1 in Colorado Springs Friday night. The loss sets the UNM record to 9-3-0 on the season, and it marks the first time under coach Jeremy Fishbein that the Lobos have lost twice in one season to the Falcons.
Air Force got on the board in a matter of minutes thanks to Kevin Durr’s unassisted goal from thirty yards out in the 5th minute. The Kevin Durr scoring strike would be the only scoring action of the first half.
The Lobos came out strong in the second half and scored less than six minutes. Nik Robson scored his third goal of the season on a penalty kick to tie the game with less than 40 minutes to play.
The eventual game-winner came from Air Force’s Caleb Downey in the 75th minute. Downey scored from five yards out in a crowded box to put the Falcons up for good. It was Downey who also scored the game-winner for Air Force in last Friday’s overtime victory against the Lobos at the UNM Soccer Complex.
The Lobos will look to re-gather as they travel to face the Denver University Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
