Briefs: UNM baseball series canceled; Lobo women’s soccer ticket info

UNM at Nevada baseball series axed

Due to the positive COVID-19 test and the resulting contact tracing within the New Mexico baseball program announced last week, the series between the Lobos and Nevada, originally slated for Saturday and Sunday, has been canceled.

The series will not be rescheduled.

UNM’s next scheduled series is tabbed for April 24-25 against UNLV at home.

Maly earns MWC weekly award

After posting seven points through the University of New Mexico’s two home games over the weekend, redshirt senior Gwen Maly has been named the Mountain West Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

This is the second time this season Maly has held the MW Offensive Player of the Week title.

Maly led the Lobos to a pair of victories against Wyoming (3-1) and Colorado State (2-0), recording three goals and an assist for a total of seven points. She scored the game-winning goal in both matches.

This weekly honor is shared with Ashley Cardozo of Utah State, who registered three goals and an assist for seven points.

NEXT UP: The Lobos will host San Diego State in the Mountain West Conference Final Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex.

The winner of the cross-divisional match will be named the Mountain West champion and will earn the MW’s automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.

Tickets can be purchased online at or call the Lobo Ticket Office at (505) 925-5626. Tickets are $8 per person. Groups of ten or more can purchase tickets at a discounted rate by contacting the Lobo Ticket Office during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. through Friday. Student tickets, free to current UNM students, will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis, and can be reserved online. A valid student email or ID is required to reserve a student ticket.

Purchasing tickets online is highly encouraged as the UNM Soccer Complex will be functioning at a limited capacity in accordance with the current state health order. If available, tickets can be purchased at the gate before the game. No cash will be accepted at the venue.

Biassou Named to All-MWC Team

University of New Mexico sophomore outside hitter Kaitlynn Biassou earned her first all-conference honor as a member of the All-Mountain West volleyball team.

It is the 14th consecutive year that a Lobo has made the all-conference team.

Biassou finished the conference-only season sixth in kills per set and fifth in points per set at 3.34 and 4.00, respectively. The Lobo totaled 137 kills and 214.5 points, her second season surpassing 100-plus kills and points while playing half as many sets in the shortened 2020-21 volleyball season than in her freshman season. The Sparks, Nevada native had a career-high 25 kills in the season finale against Utah State.
