Bobcats Bury Ags In Season Finale

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Nine Texas State players scored touchdowns on Saturday, including two fumble returns and a punt return, as the Bobcats rolled to a 66-28 victory over New Mexico State in the season finale for both schools.

Texas State (4-8, 2-4 Western Athletic Conference), which entered the game on a five-game losing streak, set the pace in the first half as the Bobcats scored 49 points on seven touchdowns.

The Bobcats held the Aggies (1-11, 0-6) scoreless in the second half after allowing 28 first-half points and trailing at one point 21-14. Texas State linebacker Joplo Bartu put together one of the best games of his career, totaling career highs of 17 tackles, eight of which were for a loss, including four sacks.

Bobcat Shaun Rutherford capped his career with a personal-best 138 yards on the ground in addition to throwing for a touchdown, his 15th of the season.

NMSU quarterback Andrew Manley threw two TD passes and ran for a score.

On defense, Aggies linebacker Trashaun Nixon and defensive tackle Donte Savage accumulated eight tackles each.

A group of Aggies finished the game with personal records on offense.

Wide receiver Jarrel Brown finished the game with a career-high in receiving yards with four catches for 54 yards. Wide receiver Austin Franklin had a season-high for kick return yards with 171 yards. Also, running back Germi Morrison finished the game with a career-high 129 rushing yards off 19 carries and one touchdown, giving himself and the Aggies their first 100-yard performance from a running back all season.
