ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Senior strong safety Matt Raymer was honored three times by his fellow Lobos as the University of New Mexico football team announced its 2012 award winners.
Raymer, a Manzano graduate, was named most inspirational and most improved in a vote by his teammates. He was also given the New Mexico Man Award. He had 83 tackles, eight tackles for loss and an interception this season.
Junior running back Kasey Carrier was voted most valuable player and the top offensive player. He rushed for 1,469 yards, averaging 5.8 yards a carry. He also scored 90 points.
Junior linebacker Dallas Bollema was selected top defensive player. The Artesia grad led the team in tackles with 89 and recorded three interceptions.
Senior quarterback B.R. Holbrook was given an award for his unselfish devotion to the team.
Meanwhile, collegefootballnews.com named Lobo quarterback Cole Gautsche to its honorable mention All-Freshman Team on Monday.
The freshman from Rio Rancho rushed for 760 yards and seven TDs. His rushing yards were the third most ever by a Lobo quarterback.
