On 12/12/12, Alford Makes List of Top No. 12's in College Basketball History

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Happy 12/12/12! I’m so excited I feel like I could say that about a dozen times.

Between all the crazy festivities on this festive day, ESPN’s Jeremy Lundblad found time to post his list of the top 12 players to wear the No. 12 in college basketball history.

Right near the top is UNM men’s basketball coach Steve Alford, who comes in at No. 2 on the list behind Oscar Robertson. Not bad company to keep at all.

Here is what Lundblad wrote of Alford, the former Indiana Hoosier great:

“Alford led the Hoosiers to the 1987 national title, garnering first-team All-American honors along the way. By the time he left Bloomington, Alford was the school’s all-time leading scorer (since passed by Calbert Cheaney).”
