ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For the first time since 1998, New Mexico is holding a special election to fill a vacant congressional seat. The 1st Congressional District seat was held by Deb Haaland, who resigned in March after being confirmed as U.S. interior secretary.

Whoever wins the four-way race to succeed Haaland on Tuesday will serve out the remainder of her two-year term that ends in January 2023. The seat will also be on the general election ballot in November 2022.
