Isotopes roster player hit with suspension

One of the players on the Opening Night Isotopes roster won’t be with the team for a while.  3B Colton Welker was hit with an 80-game unpaid suspension upon testing positive for performance-enhancing drug Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (DHCMT). The 11th-rated prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization by MLB.com, Welker said on social media Thursday that he has “never knowingly ingested any substance to enhance my performance” and intends to “clear my name.”

The parent Rockies announced the news within an hour of the Isotopes’ scheduled first pitch for their Thursday night home and season opener vs. Sugar Land.
