ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bastien Amat was named Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, while junior Sam Choi and sophomore Albert Boneta earned all-conference honors for the University of New Mexico men’s golf team that won the league title.

Amat, a native of France, has a 72.50 average in 21 rounds this season, which is third on the team. He finished tied for fifth at the PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah on April 24.

Choi, who is ranked No. 23 in the nation by Golfstat, leads the Lobos with his 70.52 average. He tied for first in regulation at the MWC Championship at the Omni Tucson National Golf Course in Arizona on May 1, and lost in the first four-man playoff in conference tournament history.

Boneta, from Spain, (73-72-65) finished tied for fifth, at 6-under 210 at the MW Championship. He tied for medalist honors with a 12-under par 201 at the Thunderbird Collegiate at Papago Golf Course on April 17.

The Lobos are seeded fifth in the NCAA Regional at UNM Championship Golf Course Monday through Wednesday. The five lowest-shooting teams and the lowest-shooting individual not from those five teams will move on to the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 28-June 2.
