Police ID two men killed in ABQ on Sunday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives have released the names of two men killed in separate incidents in the city early Sunday morning.

Albuquerque police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said the deaths of Joe Romero, 23, and Aaron Rodriguez, 22, are being investigated as homicides. No arrests have been made.

Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to a motorcycle crash at Broadway and Coal SE. They found the rider, Romero, fatally shot and he died at the hospital.

Then, at 1:40 a.m., police were called to a shooting in the 7300 block of Blue Avena SW, near Unser and Arenal. They found Rodriguez dead inside a home and interviewed two people at the scene, but both were released.

So far, there have been 54 homicides in Albuquerque this year.
