Pitching in: ABQ Hispano chamber announces 73 scholarships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce announced about $90,000 in scholarships to 73 students Thursday at its Education Excellence Scholarship Ceremony.

The scholarships are funded by local businesses, organizations, and individuals, as well as by funds raised by the chamber education committee and the annual Hispano Chamber Golf Tournament. In addition to the Hispano Chamber $1,000 Opportunity Scholarship — awarded to high school seniors, non-traditional and returning students over the age of 19 for the third year in a row — the Hispano Chamber presented three high school seniors a multi-year Thrive Scholarship totaling $5,500 each. Among the total 73 scholarships awarded were the Loretta A. Armenta Memorial Scholarship, presented by the Armenta Family; the Jennifer Riordan Financial Literacy Scholarship, presented by Joe Trimble of Wells Fargo; the Ken Sanchez Memorial Scholarship, presented by Elaine Romero with the City of Albuquerque; and the Adan Carriaga Memorial Scholarship (Arts & Culture Award), presented by Gina Thomas of The Duke City Gladiators.

Sponsors of the chamber’s four-year THRIVE scholarships were: Perikin Enterprises, Bank of Albuquerque and the Hispano Chamber. Sponsors of the chamber’s annual scholarship were: ABBA Technologies, Adelante, Louie Sanchez Allstate Agency, the Armenta Family, AUI Inc., Brycon Construction, COMPA Industries, Central New Mexico Community College, the Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Home Instead Senior Care, Jaramillo Accounting Group, NMEAF, Raines & Vigil Family, Rivas Family, Ryan True Foundation, Sun Rise Roofing and US Bank.

Grants awarded to youth, health nonprofit groups

The Del Norte Living Our Vision Foundation has announced the five nonprofit organization recipients of its inaugural 2021 Spring Cycle Del Norte LOV Foundation Community Grant-Making Program, a release said.
Each nonprofit organization grantee will receive $2,500 in charitable funds toward their programming.
Recipients include:
– Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico to support its Bereavement Support for Children, Families and Adults program.
– The Sky Center/New Mexico Suicide Intervention Project to support its Hope and Resilience — Preventing a Youth Suicide program.
– Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association to support its Bridging the Gap program.
– Cancer Foundation for New Mexico to support its Meals That Heal program.
– Christus St. Vincent Entrada Contenta Pediatric Clinic to support its Entrada Contenta Pediatrics Reach Out and Read program.
The mission of the Del Norte LOV Foundation is to improve lives of youth and families in New Mexico, the release said.

Del Norte Credit Union gives scholarship

Del Norte Credit Union has awarded its $1,000 Venessa Valerio Memorial Scholarship to Jessica Rodriguez, a nursing student at Northern New Mexico College in Española.
The scholarship started in 2016.
