ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Former University of New Mexico guard Demetrius Walker, who began the 2012-13 season in the starting lineup before being dismissed from the team late in the season, will play in the Pit again.
Grand Canyon University head coach Dan Majerle, the former Phoenix Suns star, announced Wednesday that Walker will transfer back to the Phoenix school for the coming season.
Walker graduated from UNM after the first summer session and as a graduate transfer is eligible immediately to play for the Antelopes, who ply the Lobos in the Pit this fall.
The 6-2 guard from California graduated high school from Phoenix St. Mary’s High School, played as a freshman at Arizona State then transferred to UNM.
“We are excited to have a player of Demetrius’ ability that has played at both New Mexico and Arizona State,” said Majerle. “It is good to have him here at GCU, as he brings with him a lot of experience and can score the basketball. He will be big for our team next season having a guy that we can go to. ”
GCU is competing as a Division I transitional team this season and is a first-year member of the Western Athletic Conference.
