Ayers joins UNM football coaching staff

The University of New Mexico football team is adding Demarcus Ayers, a former wide receiver at Houston, to its coaching staff, the Athletic reported on Monday, and Ayers confirmed on Twitter.

Ayers will reportedly assist with wide receivers, returners and Dallas-Houston area recruiting.

Ayers was the leading receiver on Houston’s 2015 Peach Bowl-winning team that went 13-1.

With the Lobos, Ayers joins a staff of three former Houston assistants: UNM offensive coordinator Derek Warehime, quarterbacks coach Drew Mehringer and special teams coach Jamie Christian.
