ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Isotopes’ Buss gets single, scores run
RENO, Nev. – Tony Sanchez of Indianapolis, the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft, hit a three-run homer in the second inning to power the International League All-Stars to a 4-3 victory over the Pacific Coast League All-Stars on Wednesday night.
The winning drive by the Pirates’ prospect came off Oklahoma City right-hander Jarred Cosart, who only five days earlier pitched eight-plus innings of two-hit, shutout ball for the parent Houston Astros at Tampa Bay in his major league debut.
Chili Buss, the Albuquerque Isotopes’ sole member on the PCL team, started in left field and led off, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.
In the bottom of the first, Buss ignited a two-run rally with a line-drive single to right. He then went to second on a base hit by Reno’s Chris Owings and scored on a single by Brett Pill of Fresno. That tied the game at 1-1. Owings later scored on a fielder’s choice grounder.
