Junior golfers advance in Drive, Chip & Putt

The top three junior golfers in four age divisions, boys and girls, advanced to sub-regional qualifying after the Drive, Chip & Putt local qualifier at UNM Championship Golf Course on June 9.

The sub-regional qualifier is at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug. 7. The regional qualifier is at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona on Sept. 26. The juniors vie to earn a spot in the national finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club on the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast by Golf Channel.

Sun Country’s second local qualifier is July 1 at New Mexico State Golf Course.

The following are the top three in each age division that advanced to the sub-regional.

Boys age 7-9 division: Wesley Baker (Albuquerque, overall score 92), Owen Henson (Albuquerque, 75), Hunter Holt (Corrales, 66)

Girls 7-9: Allister Amedio (Albuquerque, 53), Holly Rosenberg (Albuquerque, 34), Santana Parraz (Albuquerque, 30)

Boys 10-11: Thomas Whitten (Albuquerque, 106), Ryan Rasmussen (Goodyear, Ariz., 102), Colin Orell (Albuquerque, 101)

Girls 10-11: Gianna Atencio (Rociada, 66), Parker Velarde-Wilson (Albuquerque, 61), Adyson Stone (Corrales, 61)

Boys 12-13: Michael Velasquez Saiz (White Rock, 105), Ryan Vigil (Albuquerque, 100), Angelo Martinez (Albuquerque, 92)

Girls 12-13: Kendall Trujillo (Albuquerque, 76), Kiana Weirick (Cedar Crest, 72), Olivia Long (Albuquerque, 60)

Boys 14-15: Elijah Salazar (Santa Fe, 111), Jax Mulville (Albuquerque, 109), Aanor Benally (Albuquerque, 103)

Girls 14-15: Nicole Iniakov (Prunedale, Calif. 136), Maddison Long (Albuquerque, 110), Giulia Baccante (Santa Fe, 103)
