Aces blast Isotopes in series opener

PROBABLES: Isotopes RHP Brandon Gold (1-3, 7.94) vs. Aces RHP Humberto Mejia (0-2, 70.20)

THURSDAY: Host Reno smacked 16 hits, scored eight runs in the eighth inning and blasted Albuquerque 14-4 in the opener of the six-game series. Reno leadoff hitter Josh VanMeter homered twice and raised his season batting average to .390. It was the fourth consecutive game in which Reno had scored at least 14 runs. Isotopes starter Dereck Rodriguez left after throwing only 11 pitches due to an apparent injury.

NOTABLE: RHP Jon Gray is expected to make a rehab assignment start for the Isotopes on Sunday in Reno.

TRANSACTION: The parent Colorado Rockies recalled RHP Justin Lawrence from Albuquerque after placing RHP Mychal Givens on the 10-day injured list.
