Pitching in: Rotary grants go to groups serving basic needs

Rotary Del Norte Foundation has awarded grants to 18 local charities totaling $45,000, mostly to nonprofits that serve basic needs like food and shelter, according to a release.

Recipients received grants ranging from $1,900 to $3,000, and included: Albuquerque Adult Learning Center; Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless; Assistance League of Albuquerque; Camp Enchantment; Casa Esperanza, Inc.; Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico; Crossroads for Women; Hope Works; Locker 505; Mandy’s Farm; Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque; New Day Youth & Family Services; New Mexico Dental Association Foundation; Rio Grande Food Project; Roadrunner Food Bank; Saranam; Share Your Care, Inc., and Storehouse New Mexico.

The foundation received a record number of requests this year, the release said.

“The Rotary Del Norte Foundation Board feels honored to be able to have such a financial impact to our community, especially at a time like this,” said Steve Becker, president of the foundation, according to the release. “Our thanks go out to the entire Del Norte Rotary Club for the many years of hard work that went into building the Foundation’s reserves sufficiently to enable these grants.
