New Mexico United’s Amando Moreno has been selected to the preliminary national team for El Salvador for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, the club announced Friday. He is the second United player called to compete for a roster spot, joining teammate Brian Brown with Jamaica.
Moreno was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and is of El Salvadoran heritage, making him eligible for selection.
The players do not need to be released from their contracts in order to compete internationally, meaning the two potentially could miss United matches scheduled for July 9, 12 and 2.
United (4-2-2), which defeated visiting San Antonio FC 2-0 Wednesday, returns to action next Friday at Colorado Springs.
