The Rio Rancho Police Department is giving locals a chance to solve their very own mystery – albeit fictional – later this month.

RRPD spokesman Lt. Richard Koschade said they are taking applications for the first Whodunnit Mystery Night, to be held at 5 p.m. on July 31.bright spot logo

“This fun, community engagement event will challenge participants to investigate and solve a fictional crime, and educate them about law enforcement’s operations,” he said in a release. “In small groups, participants will work together and with officers to gather information and solve the case.”

Koschade said the night will begin at the department’s headquarters and continue to three separate parks in the area as sleuths receive clues.

Participants will have two hours to solve the mystery before the night ends at Campus Park in City Center, where the gumshoes will be met with live music and a food vendor.

“Space is limited, so register today!” Koschade said, adding that the deadline to apply is July 25.

Interested flatfoots must be Rio Rancho residents, 18 or older, and have a working vehicle to drive to the different locales as the whodunit unravels.

Those selected must also pass a criminal background check.

If interested in participating, apply online at www.rrnm.gov/mystery.
