American Campus Communities: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

AUSTIN, Texas — American Campus Communities Inc. (ACC) on Monday reported a key measure of profitability in its second quarter. The results surpassed Wall Street expectations.

The real estate investment trust, based in Austin, Texas, said it had funds from operations of $58.8 million, or 42 cents per share, in the period.

The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for funds from operations of 37 cents per share.

Funds from operations is a closely watched measure in the REIT industry. It takes net income and adds back items such as depreciation and amortization.

The company said it had a loss of $9.4 million, or 7 cents per share.

The real estate investment trust posted revenue of $208.5 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in October, American Campus Communities expects its per-share funds from operations to range from 33 cents to 37 cents.

The company expects full-year funds from operations in the range of $1.93 to $2.07 per share.

The company’s shares have increased 17% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $50.19, an increase of 46% in the last 12 months.
