City to give away free backpacks Saturday

Kids who are enrolled in school this fall will be able to snag a free backpack containing school supplies, books, and vouchers for things like clothing, haircuts, food and more during a Saturday event on Civic Plaza.

“Cruzin’ Into the School Year” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is being sponsored by the Albuquerque Family and Community Services Department.

Also on hand will be providers who will conduct sports physicals, which are necessary for kids who plan to participate in school sports. Kids age 12 and older will also be able to get a COVID vaccination, with parental consent.

The event will also feature music, a car show and children’s activities.

Students must be present to receive their free backpacks.
