NBCUniversal Local is making a bigger imprint in New Mexico.
The company and Ramar Communications have entered into an agreement that will result in NBCUniversal Local acquiring four full power stations.
The agreement has to be approved by the Federal Communications Commission.
The four power stations include one Class A station and three low-power stations that are assigned to the Albuquerque DMA and are currently owned and operated by Ramar Communications, Inc.
“We are excited to continue the work we have started across many other Telemundo markets with the launch of a new Telemundo-owned station in Albuquerque to help inform and empower audiences with the local news, weather, consumer and investigative information they need,” said Manuel Martinez, Telemundo Station Group president.
NBCUniversal Local and Ramar Communications, Inc. have jointly filed with the FCC an application seeking consent to the transaction.
“We are pleased to expand on Ramar Communications’ work with the Latino community in the market and look forward to serving Albuquerque’s Spanish-speaking audiences with the launch of our own Telemundo local news operation, soon,” said Valari Staab, President NBCUniversal Local.
Ramar Communications has operated Telemundo in Albuquerque for nearly 25 years.
“Ramar is pleased to transition development of our stations to NBCUniversal Local,” said Brad Moran, Ramar Communications president. “This transaction will be beneficial to the community, viewers and advertisers of the KASA+ stations.”
